thought i would post this website for you guys. Ive done business with them and they are very easy to deal with.

You can buy the shims in packs of 50 some come in packs of 25 but most are 50. its enough shims to last the life of the truck but they are much cheaper then buying shim kits from online.

if you have cen diffs you need. 8mm ID

.1 thickness
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98055a111/=29ohxb
.2 thickness
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98055a112/=29oi9w

if you have savage 21/25/x/xss/xl diffs 10mm ID
.1 thickness
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98055a117/=29oixv
.2 thickness
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98055a118/=29oj50

transmission shims. 6mm ID
.1mm
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98055a105/=29oku4
.2mm
http://www.mcmaster.com/#98089a247/=29ol1f

now if you have a flux you need both, but might be able to get away with just the cen type shims (8mm ID) since you really only need to shim the ring gear side, rarely have to shim the cup side.

technically you can get away with just buying the .1mm shims but it equals using alot more AND more prone to failure since they are so thin (if you use alot of them)

these shims go on the INSIDE of the bearing, they can work on out but with these types i like them on the inside of the bearing.

if you guys want i can do a group buy of these (since most don't need 100 shims lol) and just sell kits... let me know your thoughts.

nice thread badd, very helpful. i think it may have been blazer that originally pointed out this site (cant remember).

reps to badd for makin the thread easy to see which shims get applied where in your specific truck. will be very helpful to members at all experience levels. +1.

thanks for the info!! very helpful as pretty much everyone will be needing them sooner or later!!!!!

I'd be very interested in a group buy for these or a kit much like what Badd offered... they are cheap enough but I'd have a million shims laying around lol

yea let me think about it a little, might be a few weeks before i do it. have very little cash to spare at the moment lol

they will work but the best thing to do would get the 8mm ID shims but that means another set of shims to buy.... the 10mm ID shims will work tho.

So I want the shim to cover the entire bearing? Is there any place that sells a kit for the savage? some 10mm and 8mm with a variety of thicknesses? I haven't had any luck finding them. I'd hate to spend $30 on shims and then have 200 shims laying around :)

you better not be redoing my work texas:smilie8: lol just buggin ya. i need some shims too i got some from distrait and they worked phenomenally

yea the 10mm will work fine, they are not the best but will do the job just fine.

ive been pondering buying some of these shims and selling them as kits but it would be to much effort for little gain. i don't know anyone that sells a "kit" with everything.

Thanks for the info bad
No I'll get the right ones. Some 10 x 16 mm for the diff and 8 x 16mm for the pinion, in both .1 and .2 thicknesses. I just wasn't sure if they needed to cover the bearing completly, didn't know if that would cause rubbing issues with the inner and outer track of the bearing. This will be my first time doing it so I'm sure I'll have more questions later.

Maybe we should bug Nick @ smf to hook up some kits, considering they already have such sweet hardware kits and affordable bearings. Just another reason to shop at smf! :)

that would be cool.

as for covering the bearing yea imo it would be better to cover the whole thing but its not necessary.

here are my plans and what a kit will come with....

qty 20 shims total

5 10mm ID .1
5 10mm ID .2
5 8mm ID .1
5 8mm ID .2
price will be $8 a kit shipped in the regular mail in the US if you want them fast then add shipping to the cost.

each kit should/will be able to do 2 diffs completely with a few spares....

want to see if there is any interest in this before i do it...

Sold ! do 8.99 you d sell just as many imo.
Would be cool to make a lil simple schematic / Drawing about where to put what also.
I d be glad to make it in Photoshop for you if you want :) I d trade you for a kit ! hehe
Make a more expensive one with titanium or teflon shims for freaks like me.

sounds like a awsome plan, its always nice to have a few spare shims around............

I'm in as well Bad, like Vintage said i could make a nice drawing of where to place everything...

BRP Badazs Racing parts

Who are we: ( Short bio bout you ) X years of experience in RC, Savage specialist nitro and Brushless.

Product description : Simple guided instalation requiring no extra tools or skills, estimated time to complete instalation = X mins. Package the different sizes in different smaller bags with a number on em.

Product benefits: extend the life of your diff and whatever else you think is a beneficial when shimming the diff. pointing out how 8.99 bucks can save you a lot of troubles and improve general performances.

Friendly advice about what grease to use when rebuilding the diff

if you have a printer that can print on thicker paper, make a nice lil packaging for the top of the bag with your BRP logo ( could use your SIG for that, signature not SIG P228 that is )

just a few ideas :D

That looks great Morph. I think it d be great to have the shimz numbers tho like R1 (Right 1) L2 ( left two ) etc.
Nothing mire annoying than buying a bulk of parts and having to get yer caliper to instal em.

Ya Vintage, just a rough draft to show.. really not sure exactly how to shim myself.. waiting on Bad to sell these kits so i can do it for the first time...lol..

eheheh yes I was suggesting for him to do it , would be great for noobs like me to have bags labelled 1/ 2 / 3 so i don t screw it up :p

we will see guys, ill order up some and sell kits i guess there seems to be some interest in it.

tone that first one looks swwwwweeeet can wait for my sig :O
